ABOUT ME
I'm Jamie. I've always loved languages and linguistics, but as a child with a stammer, I didn't think a career in this field was 'for me'. At school, speaking in class was unthinkable; often I couldn't even answer the morning register. I felt frustrated that the French in my head didn't come out of my mouth fluently, which (I thought) led people to think I was no good at it!
As an adult I have been able to control my speech to the extent that I'm now a confident and experienced public speaker (links below). In fact, I think learning new languages has played a huge part in this (stay tuned for a blog post on this topic). Eventually I reconsidered linguistics as a career option.
Feeling that spoken language was somehow closed off to me had two major impacts. Firstly, I developed my own writing skills, so I had an outlet to show people what I'm made of! I loved the power of being able to say exactly what I think. Secondly, it drove me to champion the underrepresented wherever I could. I became hyperaware of the overwhelming presence of English in the global setting, and made it my mission to ensure those who don't speak English have access to as many international products and technologies as possible.

My passions are problem-solving unique conundrums, which is why the fascinating localisation challenge of what3words appealed so much, and working with rarer languages that are often overlooked. But as long as I'm helping to bring crucial information, or products that I love, to as many people as I can - that brings me joy.
